What Ted Lasso and I have in Common

Replace Criticism With Encouragement

What Ted Lasso and I have in common - overcome fear of speaking in public

Sometimes I forget how scary and pressurizing asking someone to speak in public or to a group can be.

Overcome Fear Of Speaking In Public With Aristo: Recently I was helping an organization to prepare their people to engage with existing customers and prospective clients.

The person who engaged me to do the work with the team has been a business associate for several years and we have worked together on numerous occasions previously.

In this very short introductory session, my job was to identify and create a story/ conversation that they could tell with belief and confidence to interested parties.

Having explained what was expected of the group and worked with them to create the conversation. I was not surprised that two of this small group of people found speaking to their colleagues to be daunting and declined to stand and tell their story.

This fear was created in their past, by somebody’s misunderstanding of how to motivate a person.

My job is to provide the support and confidence to these people to get over their fear of speaking in public. I can do this given a bit of time.

I use a very similar methodology to those applied in the ‘Ted Lasso’ series on Apple TV.

Ted always looks for the good in people, provides encouragement and wants people to be the best they can be, while being themselves and not a poor imitation of someone else.

Please watch and enjoy the series; it’s “laugh out loud funny”, then come to me; together, we can help good people in your organization overcome their fear of speaking in public.

When they overcome their fear of speaking up, they will blossom into the people you and they would like to be.
