When we were kids in school, we spelt it this way – Di two farts and a splash!
My first week back in January after the Christmas holiday started with the D word. I felt miserable and went to my doctor, who told me my blood pressure was very low and that I was completely dehydrated. She gave me a letter for the hospital and told me I should get there immediately.
After a week of rehydrating drips, resting and multiple tests, they found nothing wrong with me, and they sent me home feeling much better and relieved than I did when I arrived.
I spent my time in the hospital sleeping, reading and listening to music.
Interestingly, music has always been the art form that uplifts me when I am feeling low. For many years now, I have been listening to an American folk singer called John Gorka.
I love lots of his music, but previously, I had listened to his song “Morningside” but did not pay attention to the words until I was in hospital.
Morningside gave me the enthusiasm to start and end each day as a patient.
Now that I am home and well, I plan to have the words of this song as my Anthem for 2025.
These are the opening lines: (There is a YouTube link at the end of this article to the song and the lyrics.)
Am I a fool at this late date
to hear a voice that says,
you can be great
I heard it younger, now I hear it again
it says, you can be better than you’ve ever been
Chorus
Don’t want to waste when I have to give
In all of the time that I’ve left to live
Don’t want to waste what I have to give
In any of the time that I’ve got left
I can do more than I thought I could
Work brings more luck than knocking on wood
There’s random bad and random good
Work brings more good luck
I think this piece of music might also be uplifting for you at the beginning of this year.
If this is not your thing, I would strongly suggest that, you seek something that boosts you and encourages you to look forward to the year.
Whether it’s a piece of music, poetry or an inspirational quote, we all need something to give us a uplift from time to time.
People I wish to say Thank You to:
First, my clients and the people in my community who read my article and have done so for many years.
We have now been publishing these articles for five years and could not have done that without the support of Sandra Maguire, Ali, and Irish Tech News.
I wish you a great New Year and look forward to reengaging with you all in the coming year.
As the comedian Dave Allen used to say at the end of his shows – goodbye and “May your God go with you”.
